While surfing the net last week I found winter-flowering primroses! The natural colour, not the garish luminous coloured varieties which last all winter. They are called Primula Everlast.
The more I garden and cook, the more I’ve become a fan of seasons. Getting excited when rhubarb season is approaching, eating the freshest of peas straight from their pods and eagerly anticipating the approach of Christmas with the first crop of brussel sprouts. In the flower garden; the first crocuses heralding the start of spring, the first roses with their delicate and beautiful flowers letting you know that its time to savour each bloom while it lasts. Then not mourning the end of that plants growing season, but looking forward to what the next season will bring.
However, there was something about having pretty primroses to delight me all winter that appealed to me. So, I dove in and bought them.
I planted them down the avenue under the trees. I call this area my woodland garden. It has crocuses for spring, then normal primroses, bluebells and wild garlic. It really is a springtime area as I don’t have anything appearing here for the summer or autumn. Therefore I’m super excited to be able to extend this area’s flowering by an entire season.
Roll on the short, cold winter days, I have my blooms to enjoy.
